8 Reasons Why Cancun is the best Summer Family Vacation Destination

Known for its sublime beaches, amazing sightseeing, and year-round blue skies

April, 2019

It’s easy to understand why Cancun is pretty much a dream vacation spot. What may surprise you, however, is that this Mexican Caribbean paradise has rapidly evolved from the spring break haven to one of the top family vacation destinations

Don't get us wrong, Cancun still holds its own in the partying department, but the popular vacation destination is also quickly gaining a reputation for its family fun as well. And it's no wonder, because whether you’re looking for a place to relax or seeking adventure, this spectacular beach destination holds all kinds of adventures for you and your family to discover together.

From a night out on the town to getting up close and personal with exotic sea life, we've rounded up 8 kid (and parent) approved reasons why a family vacation in Cancun should be on your calendar.

Enjoy all kind of aquatic activities during your family vacation in Cancun

Take Your Pick of Water Activities

Some of the biggest advantages of vacationing in Cancun are the gorgeous weather, sandy beaches and of course, plenty of fun in the water.

Whether it’s exploring the beautiful sea life and coral reefs while snorkeling or trying your hand at simulated surfing on the exciting (and safe) Flowrider at Moon Palace Cancun, you don’t have to look far for a plethora of fun-filled water activities to keep your family holiday packed with fun and excitement for all ages.

A Boat Ride to Isla Mujeres

Just eight miles and a quick 20-minute boat ride from the coast of Cancun, Isla Mujeres is the perfect place for a family day trip.

Known for its beautiful crushed coral beaches and turquoise blue water, the island is the perfect place for snorkeling with the kids and spending a day at the beach. And since the island is so compact and easy to navigate, families can get around by foot, rented bicycle or cruising in a golf cart.

Experience Local Sea Life

When you want to take a break from fun in the Cancun sun, you can change things up and bring the vacation fun indoors with a family trip to the Cancun Interactive Aquarium.

The only one of its kind in Cancun, the aquarium is home to a variety of fascinating and colorful fish and species of sea life, where the kids are sure to have a blast petting stingrays and starfish, watching the dolphin show, and of course, grabbing an ice cream after all the aquatic fun!

Enjoy an All-Inclusive Family Resort

Why overcomplicate a family vacation in Cancun by risking a stay at less than stellar accommodations when you can simplify your getaway by booking a stay at a luxury Cancun resort?

When staying at the famous Moon Palace Cancun, not only will you be a mere 15 minutes from Cancun International Airport, but kids and teens (aged 17 and under) also get to stay, play and eat free with 2 paying adults*.

Not to mention the plethora of additional perks included in your stay such as a state-of-the-art gaming lounge, golfing at the 27 hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, rejuvenating spa treatments at the world-renowned Awe Spa® and an assortment of exquisite restaurants, including Arrecifes and La Gondola.

Cancun Interactive Aquarium or MUSA are perfect activities for your family vacation

Take in Some Ancient Mexican History

If you want to throw a little education into your Cancun holiday, take the kiddos for a day trip to one of the many archaeological sites that Mexico has to offer. Not only will they get to experience the amazing pyramids, they can also learn about Mexico's culture and history in an interactive and fun way.

Whether its Chichen Itza (one of the New 7 Wonders of the World), Tulum (with a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea), or Coba (you can actually climb the main pyramid), Mexico's ancient archaeological spots are perfect for a day out.

Discover the magic of Cancun Cenotes

If you want a unique and fun experience during your Cancun getaway, you’ll be hard pressed to find something more interesting than visiting a cenote – and with over 6,000 of these limestone sinkholes filled with water, Mexico is just the place to explore them.

Try the popular Rio Secreto tour where guides will explain the geological marvels of these fascinating swimming holes, as well as providing wetsuits, lifejackets, helmets, and headlamps for the whole family.  Or you can take a dive and explore the famous Ik Kil Cenote, which boasts a circular carved limestone staircase and spectacular views – perfect for a family pic.

Dive into an Under Water Museum

During your family vacation in Cancun, you can add a little unique adventure with a trip to the Underwater Museum (MUSA), one of Mexico's many popular museums.

Featuring hundreds of submerged sculptures that double as home for fish and other underwater organisms as a reef, MUSA can be explored aboard a glass-bottom boat, while snorkeling, or by scuba-diving.

Participate in a Sea Turtle Release

If visiting Cancun from May to October, don’t miss out on learning about Mexico's sea turtle population and perhaps even giving them a helping hand into the sea.

One of the best parts of staying at properties like Moon Palace Cancun or Moon Palace The Grand - Cancun is that the whole family may even get the chance to take part in a release “ceremony”, where baby turtles set off on their long voyage across the sea.

#BestServer of our entire stay 7 night vacay

I want to give a BIG shout out to Fernando for his #TopShelfService. My family and I have been on vacation for 7 nights at the #SunriseMoonPalace and his service was the perfect example of why you would come to this resort. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, this is your spot! Enjoy

Swimming with dolphins was wonderful: they were humanely treated and not mobbed by tourists.

Overall great experience: the rooms, food (many options were available), drinks and service are all great. Grounds neatly kept.
However, the beach and water has a lot of trash in it (beware, swimmers).
